Today it's quite normal, and in fact standard, for companies to expend amazing amounts of time and resources on social media marketing. But it's clear to me that one simple fact is constantly lacking in their strategies and tactics — search engine optimization. That fact is that success in social, especially for B-to-B companies, is very often realized through search. Consumers aren't just finding out about your products and services through your tweets, posts and other social chatter, they're finding your content that's been woven throughout the web and posted to other sites in organic search results....

In search engine optimization circles, we're never lacking for buzzwords or the new, hot item. In fact, it can make your head spin just trying to keep up with whatever is being touted as the latest and greatest method of making a website successful. Personally, I'm in the grain-of-salt camp on new things, at least until I see some concrete evidence that an idea has some substance to it. Do Not Track is Dying

The tantalizing promise of a single button that prevents ads from tracking your online behavior is fizzling fast. More than nine months after the Obama administration, digital advertisers, browser makers and privacy advocates agreed in principle to create a "Do Not Track" mechanism for Web browsing, the tool is no closer to becoming a reality than it was in February. In fact, the entire plan is on life support.
