Graph Search is adding another dimension to Facebook, namely another way for users to get a little something more out of the system. Thus far, reaction from Facebook users has been lukewarm, at best, but there appears to be a lot going on behind the scenes that we may not have known. The first thing that really jumped out at me during all of the hoopla surrounding the event was this article from Bing Vice President of Search Derrick Connell. That's why Google grew its lobbying spend 70 percent to $16.48 million in 2012 and Facebook's fees soared 196 percent to $3.99 million as the companies tried to buy government influence. Not everyone is so worried about Washington, though. Apple's yearly lobbying spend decreased 13 percent to $2.26 million. Google and Facebook's expenditures may have helped them escape punitive legislation and court rulings this time.
