The Importance of Facebook’s New Graph Search

I've seen a lot of reaction to Facebook's new Graph Search which was announced this week, and most of it's negative. The people in my own personal graph on Facebook are skeptical. They say it's not what they want, and they raise a lot of the predictable questions about privacy and the like. But I think most of that's already been addressed....

GM in Talks With Facebook About Return to Paid Ads

Alan Batey, General Motors’ interim marketing chief, said at the Detroit auto show that discussions with Facebook officials were ongoing, though the Detroit company had nothing to announce about a return to Facebook as a paid advertiser. "We're still actively talking to them and looking at opportunities that come our way," Batey told Reuters on Tuesday. "I wouldn't tell you that there's a Mexican standoff here. We just didn't see the value" in the ads.

Facebook lifted the veil yesterday on its search tool, now in beta, which enables users to mine their social connections for specific pieces of information and could be a competitor to the likes of Yelp as well as a rich new source of data for ad targeting.
