Yahoo Acquires OnTheAir to Bolster Mobile Capabilities

Marissa Mayer is keeping busy, and it looks like she's going strong versus Google. In a deal whose details remain undisclosed, Yahoo acquired video chat startup OnTheAir to bolster its mobile capabilities, but, more realistically, to compete with Google+ Hangouts....

Marissa Mayer gave a rare public interview (albeit behind closed doors) since becoming CEO of Yahoo to Fortune's Pattie Sellers Tuesday night. Not surprisingly, mobile was a huge focus of the conversation. Mayer explained what she sees as Yahoo's opportunity, and why the company is purging BlackBerrys from the building in favor of iPhones, Android and Windows phones. "We have a terrific set of assets on the web; they are all the things that people want to do on their mobile phones," she said.
